Puzzles
Choose red and yellow: what might the mixture look like? Paint one shape in two different colours: what changes? The activity is comparing your choice with its result, rather than finding one correct colour for a picture.
Begin with just two colours
In Color Workshop, choose two from red, yellow, blue and white. Stir around the bowl or press the mix button. The button offers the same result if moving a finger is awkward.
Adding white to red makes pink, to yellow makes cream, and to blue makes sky blue. These six combinations are the game's rules. Real paints vary with material, amount and mixing, so the game does not guarantee a matching real-world result.
The painting palette has 24 shades. Choose coral, mint or navy directly without mixing them. Discoveries record the six recipes made in the laboratory. Selecting orange from the palette is a different action from mixing red and yellow to make it during a colour quest.
A prediction is more than a right answer
Ask “What might red and white look like?” before mixing. If the result differs, notice that: “It looks lighter than we expected.” Pointing to a similar palette colour is another way to compare without naming it.
Choose a colour quest or free painting
A colour quest needs the target mixed shade used in the picture and at least three painted areas. Free painting lets you choose colours without those conditions. Begin in free mode when you want to explore several shades.
- Choose Color quests and check the red + yellow recipe. Add red and yellow in the laboratory, then press Mix! The new orange becomes the selected paint.
- Tap inside one area to paint it with that orange.
- Paint at least three areas in total, using orange or other shades. When all three quest steps are checked, press Finish my picture to place it in the gallery.
If three painted areas are not enough, check that you mixed the target colour and still have it in this picture. Erasing or repainting its last area removes that condition. In Free painting, one painted area is enough to finish.
Enlarge a small detail before painting it
Use Picture size at 2× or 3× to enlarge a wing or pattern. Scroll the enlarged picture to move around it. Tap inside an outlined region; a tap on a line may not change a colour. This activity fills picture regions rather than painting freely across outlines.
Undo, redo and the eraser let you correct a small area without clearing everything. A grown-up can move the view while the child chooses and paints.
Open Paint small areas if a thin detail is difficult to tap. Focusing a numbered button with the keyboard shows a golden frame around its area; check the location, then press the button to paint just that region with your selected shade. On a small screen, Change paint takes you back to the palette.
Choose what to keep or clear
Drafts, gallery pictures and discovered shades stay in this browser. Each of the three scenes has its own draft and one gallery space. Finishing the same scene again replaces its gallery picture with the newest version. Continue this picture restores a gallery picture into the draft for editing. Clearing the current picture is separate from resetting the gallery and discoveries. Downloading an image happens only when you choose it; the game does not upload your work to this site.
Look for a colour away from the screen
Choose a shade you made and find a similar one at home. It does not need to match exactly: notice whether it is lighter or darker. Record a colour or shape on the observation page of our play pack. See control help for alternatives when dragging or screen size is awkward.
These are suggestions for shared play, not promises about learning outcomes. A grown-up can handle reading or controls, and you can stop whenever you wish.
